it's time-consuming...
i photographed my friend joel berry's artwork a few days ago in exchange for a beautiful print he made... it was super fun, and if any of this work looks interesting to you, shoot him an email at:

south haven beach...
okay, so i went a little crazy here... but i had so much fun shooting at lake michigan tonight! and the water was so warm, i was tempted to jump in with all of my clothes on... but, i saved that for another day - as today was super windy and dangerous:

losing out...
this man had owned a western store called millbrook tack and trailer since 1992. the bank recently seized it due to michigan regulations and higher taxes. walking through the store, talking about all of the merchandise that he didn't own any more... it was visceral how bad our economy is right now...

olan mills takes over!
these girls, who are between fifth and eighth grade, have rescued and found homes for over 50 stray animals in the last four years. pretty cool.

geekaid 2009
geekaid is a grand rapids event where a variety of local bands perform in the park,
and they raise money for scholarships for students in technology-related (geeky) fields.

one face...
at first, i was only going to post my bizarre crop/tone version of this,
but then i thought how strange it was, that after i cropped in...
even without toning at all - i couldn't tell if this was a girl or a boy.
then i thought about how earlier in the day on an assignment i was going
to ask a couple what the name of their daughter was - but i realized,
i had no idea if their baby was a boy or girl. (she was probably 4 months old)
this makes me curious about gender development and, i think i understand
more fully, how some people feel... caught between genders.
i hope no one feels offended by my thoughts.
oh the precipitation that percolates from a bizarre crop...
(top photo is toned = levels brought in, over-saturated, curves brought down, dodged eyes)
(bottom photo is levels brought in)
