the school by the sea...

Images from Lowell Elementary School on Sehome Hill in Bellingham... It was built in the early 1900's and is currently being renovated. It was set to open this coming August, but with budget cuts, the school board is considering keeping it closed for another year despite renovations being complete.

Also, I have two things to say. First, I can't believe I haven't posted in five days! The Herald, my six roommates, and Parker visiting have kept me super busy lately... and I'm really missing blogging. Wow, and now I am officially a nerd. Second, I noticed today how vastly different my pictures look on my blog when I'm at my work computer (PC) versus at home (macbook). The PC is way saturated and maybe a bit darker? I tend to over contrast my images in general, but at work they look really intense. Anybody have any suggestions for callibrating blog pics? Thanks in advance...

Okay, one more thing, because I don't ever write much on this blog... I'd like to thank everyone who has taken the time to leave me comments or send me an email about my pictures. Critical or complimentary, it all helps to motivate me and make me a better photographer (I hope), and I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback.

That's all I've got. ;)

ode to amanda lucier...

The Mt. Vernon girls won their final game against Lynden Christian on Saturday. As Ally Kutz is hugged by a friend, the song "We are the Champions" started to play, and she threw her arms in the air.

I don't normally post photos in black and white, but I did today in honor of my friend Amanda Lucier, an amazing photographer and a wonderful person. I made this shot because of her. Literally. I called her mid-way through this game, which happened to be around 9 pm on Valentine's Day, when the D3 I was using started flashing an EE at me and I freaked out. Of course, she calmly helped me fix the camera over the phone. She was recently named the Indiana News Photographer's Association Photographer of the Year, and I couldn't be happier for her. So, a shout-out to Amanda, and all of her inspiring work!!

the rope swing in the dark...

the boys found this rope swing a few days ago, and decided to go back to swing in the dark. i don't know what the rope is attached to (it's too high to see) but you basically grab it, then swing out over a pretty steep valley...about 60 feet up in the air... then just swing back! no mom, i did not do it... but i plan on giving it a go when it's light out...
