had a conversation with a fellow photographer tonight about pictures, and i was reminded of these eagle square pictures i shot a few weeks ago. it seems like i often hear aspiring photographers talk about how they have difficulty taking pictures of strangers, or getting close enough to photograph people. i think it begins with just simply asking a subject that you are drawn to if it's okay that you photograph them. i think most people will say yes, and after that, i think the ball is in your court... what does yoda say? there is no trying, only doing? or something like that... ;) oh, i feel like i should add that these two were a funny pair. when i asked them if they were friends, they answered no, we're just drinking buddies at the vfw. ha!

i've been working on a multimedia piece in the office for the last few days, so i didn't get a chance to go and shoot at bike week. i thought i'd take my evening off last night and head down with the ring light to try to make some fun portraits. it was...... interesting!

When Jerry White was forced to retire at the age of 70, he decided to go back to school and get his third master's degree, this time in education. He's been teaching math at a community college since. "You know Rod Stewart's song, 'Forever Young'? Well, that's my theme song," he told me over coffee. I met Jerry in Keene, NH after meeting with a wedding couple. He had time to kill, and I didn't have power, so we spent some time talking about life.
